Our team of volunteers include a ministerial liaison, physician liaison, physiotherapist, occupational therapist,social worker,massage therapist, reflexologist, ombudsman and visiting volunters dedicated to providing expertise,compassion and understanding in the last days, weeks, months and even years of life. All our help is provided on a voluntary basis and there is absolutely no cost involved. HOSPICE members work with the patient and family to plan the care program, listening and responding to their needs. HOSPICE affirms every person's right to be informed and to participate in decisions affecting their care while living and when the time comes to die with dignity. HOSPICE attends to the quality of life when a cure is not apparent. It enables terminally ill people to be cared for, to live and die at home, if desired and possible. HOSPICE care is a comprehensive community service providing physical emotional, social and spiritual support throughout the last stages of life, at death, and through the bereavement period for the patient and the family. Our Care Giving Team:Includes family physicians, home care and/or hospital nurses, palliative care coordinator, home support services, spiritual supports if requested, volunteers as needed and other community and health care resources as indicated by the patient's needs. HOSPICE is non-denominational and recognizes all faiths. Our Volunteers:Are an essential component of the care team. Have been trained, screened, and have a genuine desire to help. Provide practical assistance to patients and their families. Will visit in homes and hospital. Are willing nonjudgmental listeners, who respect confidentially. Will provide "time-out" for family care-givers. Will read to, play cards or games with, write letters for, or assist patients to attend appointments and social functions as needed. Have gathered resources of books, tapes and videos available at the hospital, or upon request. Will offer grief support. Admission toHospice will be at the consent of the patient. In response to requests for service, a coordinator will arrange to visit and begin to coordinate your support programs. |
